Plant Care in the UAE

How often should I water indoor plants in Dubai?
Most indoor plants in Dubai apartments require watering every 5–7 days in summer (when A/C dries the air) and every 7–10 days in winter. The best test is to check the top 2 cm of soil - water when dry to the touch. Overwatering is the most common cause of plant death in UAE homes.
Can I keep plants outside in Dubai summer?
Most tropical and Mediterranean plants cannot survive Dubai's summer outdoor temperatures (40–50°C). Some exceptions include Bougainvillea, Oleander, Cacti, Succulents, and Date Palms. We label each plant with its UAE outdoor suitability. When in doubt, bring plants indoors from June to September.
Why are my plant leaves turning yellow?
Yellow leaves in UAE homes are most commonly caused by overwatering (check if soil is waterlogged), too much direct sunlight (harsh UAE sun can scorch most indoor plants), or cold draughts from A/C vents. Less commonly, it can indicate nutrient deficiency or rootbound conditions.
What water should I use for indoor plants in Dubai?
Dubai tap water is safe for most plants but has elevated levels of fluoride and chlorine. For sensitive plants like Calathea, Peace Lily, and Dracaena, letting tap water sit for 24 hours or using filtered water gives better results. Avoid cold water directly from the tap - room temperature is better.
Do I need to mist indoor plants in Dubai?
Misting benefits humidity-loving plants (Calathea, ferns, Peace Lily) in Dubai's dry A/C environments. Mist leaves 2–3 times per week in summer. However, avoid misting in the evening and ensure air circulation to prevent fungal issues. Plants near A/C vents benefit most from regular misting.
